Fossil Hill Middle School named State Honor Band finalist


Keller ISD’s Fossil Hill Middle School Honor Band came home from San Antonio this week as a Texas Music Educators Association State Honor Band Finalist for 2008. The ensemble took sixth place out of fourteen finalists

from across the state.

The group competed at the Texas Bandmasters Association Convention in a field of 14 other bands. The top seven bands are recognized as State Finalists, and the winner of the competition will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in 2008.

Fossil Hill Middle School’s Band, led by head Director Darlene Janeski, performed a demanding program including Torch of Liberty by Karl King, Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli, and Longford Legend by Robert Sheldon.

“Once again, the FHMS has made us all extremely proud,” says KISD Instrumental Music Director David Stevens. “The directors from FHMS have made a huge commitment to serve these young students and lead them to the highest achievement in the state of Texas.”

Mary Ann French joins staff at Fossil Hill MS

Welcome Mary Ann French to the staff of Fossil Hill Middle School.

Mrs. French has been teaching at Fossil Ridge High School for the past year and has decided to join our staff. We are excited to have her.

*Sectionals are subject to change in December. Schedule will not be the same in the spring semester for most sectionals.

Fossil Hill Middle School Band Wins 1st place at AREA

Thursday, June 18th, the CD that was recorded by the FHMS Honors 1 band students was played at Flower Mound High School in Lewisville. Out of all of the bands from our area, which include schools from numerous locations from Carrollton Farmers Branch to Amarillo, the FHMS band placed 1st place by all 5 judges.

The CD will now travel to San Antonio Texas to be played at the
State Honor Band Competition on July 26th.

All of the bands that were heard at the Area level were FABULOUS!

FHMS band moves on to Area

June 18th is the Area listening for the FHMS band.

There will be 5-6 bands heard at this level
and the top 2 will move on to the state level.

Honors I band performed today at the Murchison Hall in Denton, Texas and came out with a sweepstakes trophy. All 3 judges gave our wonderful band students and the awesome Mrs Janeski ones for their performance. The judges also gave awards to:

Outstanding Soloists today: Jessica O’Brien and Rachel Braam.

Outstanding Sections of the band: Clarinet and Trumpet…Trumpets were actually selected twice for two different pieces!!!!
