FHMS BAND APPRECIATES OUR VOLUNTEERS!

Thank you to all of the volunteers that we have had this year!  We appreicate your support!

Band Notes - 2.25.2013



·         Honor Band TRUMPETS will rehearse TODAY from  3:45 – 4:30pm

·         There are no other rehearsals for Honor or Wind Ensemble this week….except for the Thursday clinic / concert at FRHS

·         Jazz Band will rehearse on Friday!  And they have their contest on Friday!!!!

MONEY FOR TRIPS is due this Thursday.

·       NRH20 trip money for Symphonic and Honor Band 21.00

·       Murchison trip money for Wind Ensemble 14.00

 

THIS THURSDAY IS OUR CLINIC / CONCERT at Fossil Ridge High School

Honor band and Wind Ensemble students need to arrive by 4:20pm.  We will start our rehearsal at 4:30.

Symphonic band will meet at Fossil Ridge a little later.  5:20pm.

Students will wear their FHMS Band T-Shirt and Jeans!!!!

Concert begins at 6:30pm for families!!!!

SPRING TRIPS

May 8th……………..The Symphonic and Honor Band will be going to NRH20 in May for a band contest.  Each student will need to pay 21.00 to cover their entry into the park for the day.  Students will also need to bring food items or money for lunch.  Modest swim wear is required.  Money will be due by Feb. 28th if your child is planning on participating in this event.  (CHAPERONES are needed.  Chaperones must pay 16.00 to get into NRH20)

May 7……………….Wind Ensemble will go to the Murchison Band Festival in May for a band contest and will need 14.00 to cover their entry fee to the contest.  This will be our honor band recording session and a great experience for all of our young performers.  The entry fee will be due by Feb. 28th.  Make checks payable to FHMS- Band (CHAPERONES are needed)

May 11……………..Wind Ensemble will go to SIX FLAGS over TEXAS at 9am on a KISD school bus.  Student tickets are 28.50.  All money for the tickets must be paid for by March 22nd. (make checks payable to FHMS- Band)  If you have a season pass, you can use it on this day.  (CHAPERONES are needed.  Chaperones must also pay the price of admission)

Feb. 28th……………..PRE UIL FAMILY CONCERT at Fossil Ridge High School

Students arrive at 4:15 for a rehearsal on stage

Concert begins at 6:30

We will feed students dinner- pizza on us!!!!

·       12:45 pm- Report immediately to band hall after school

·       1:00 pm- Performance for Faculty in cafeteria

o   Parent are invited to watch

·       1:30-2:30 pm- Rehearsal in Band Hall

·       2:30-3:00 pm- Pizza (we will supply)

·       3:30 pm- Load Bus

·       4:00 pm- Leave FHMS

·       5:30 pm- Warm Up at UTA

·       6:00 pm- Perform

·       6:30 pm- Clinic/Feedback

·       7:30 pm- Watch Concert at UTA

·       Approx. 9pm- Leave UTA with possible stop at fast food for snack.  Bring your own $$$.

·       Approx. 9:45pm- Arrive at FHMS

PARENTS PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD COMES TO SCHOOL

IN THEIR FORMAL BAND UNIFORM TOMORROW

All black – no tennis shoes – jeans – or athletic clothes

DRESS CLOTHES ONLY

 

·         Honor band and Symphonic band WILL NOT have any extra rehearsals this week; however they have a pass off sheet that is due this week by Wednesday- so they might need to stay after school to finish this task. (they can also work on this during class time)

·         Wind Ensemble WILL HAVE an extra school rehearsal TODAY from 4pm – 6pm to prepare for PRE UIL

·         PRE UIL is tomorrow TUESDAY at Timber Creek High School.  (students have a specific newsletter for each class with details that they received last week)  Students should come to school dressed in their “ALL BLACK CONCERT DRESS UNIFORM”

·         Monday, Feb. 18th is a school holiday

 

·         I will be out of town on Wednesday and Thursday – to attend a music convention – the band hall WILL NOT be open before school for practice on those days.  Students will only be allowed to drop off their instrument at 8:20am.

 

·         Mr. Mullins, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Gonzales will be out of town on Thursday and Friday to attend the music convention.

·         NO JAZZ BAND REHEARSALS THIS WEEK

Your child will receive a specific newsletter this week during their band class in regards to his/her performance at Pre-UIL.

 

·         Wednesday – Symphonic Band / percussion rehearsal 4pm-6pm

·         Thursday – Honor Band / percussion rehearsal 4pm-6pm

·         Friday – Jazz Band 3:45-5:00pm

 

Pre-UIL is February 12th at Timber Creek High School (detailed information for each group will be sent home this week with your child) – FULL CONCERT UNIFORM IS REQUIRED – solid black – no athletic shoes

 

Concert Feb. 28th at Fossil Ridge High School 4:30-6pm clinic / 6:00-6:30 pizza for kids / 6:45 – 8:00pm CONCERT (wear band t-shirt and blue jeans)

Double Reed Day

Open to all oboe and bassoon players in grades 5-12, a day of masterclasses and performances will be presented by UTA professors Rogene Russell (oboe) and Scott Pool (bassoon). Special guests include Eric Barr (oboe, Dallas Symphony, retired) and Carl Ruth (bassoon, Lawrence Conservatory). Trombone Day

Open to all trombone players grade 9 through adult. UTA Professor of Trombone Dennis Bubert (also of the Fort Worth Symphony) will be joined by John Kitzman (Dallas Symphony), David Vining, and the Bell Street 4 Trombone Quartet. World Premiere

On the evening of February 9, the UT Arlington Wind Symphony will premiere a new double concerto for oboe and bassoon by composer Jenni Brandon. The concert begins at 7:30pm in Irons Hall on the UTA campus.
